When the MLPPP bundle fails for whatever reason (ISP problem), a lot of times the MLPPP bundle will come up but say if you have 3 configured links, the number of active links can read as high as 8. I dont think Mikrotik PPP is tearing down the old bundle before restarting a new one properly.
This is sorta ironic, but just this morning i had this very issue, RB433AH (ROS v3.18 firmware v2.18) with 4 DSL lines using MLPPP.
Over the past 2 months I have had this issue on average 1-2 times per week. The PPPoE-client reports 8 active links, but only 4 interfaces are specified. Disabling/reenabling the pppoe-client doesn’t solve the problem, it just seves to hang the pppoe-client interface. I have to reboot the unit to make it all come back up.
I do know that my ISP has been doing maintenance on their DSL login servers, but RouterOS should not ‘crash’ if the ISP has a problem.
Hope to see continuing MLPPP improvements in RouterOS.
Cheers
What happens if you do not touch the PPPoE in RouterOS but instead disable the ethernet interfaces for a while so RouterOS is cutoff from the PPPoE server… Just an idea. If that problem happens again you could try.
The point is its a bug, and not ready for production, one cant sit at winbox and watch a pppoe interface all the time.
Well I hope you provided all information to support@mikrotik.com including manufacturer of PPPoE server(s) ? (MAC Address(es))
