Hi Guys
I want to play around with mlppp by using mikrotik as the client and cisco as the server.
I want to bond 10 X 4mbps adsl lines into a 40mbps pipe.
What cisco would you recommend to act as the server?

any1?
What I know what should work are cisco 2800 series routers - but i don’t know if the smallest one (cisco 2811?) is able to push 40 Megabits of PPPoE traffic. However I cannot imagine that ML-PPP with 10 lines will work reliably with a mikrotik CPE - the most I was able to use without problems (using a cisco 2851 and cisco 7201 PPPoE server) was four DSL lines.
Well, if you can spare a few thousand dollars - feel free to try it out ![]()
If I had a few thousand dollars then I would love to try it out:P
What kind of problems did you encounter?
using 6 lines I had almost everything from not getting all sessions set up, the mikrotik somehow reporting twice as many sessions as there are physical lines, unexplainable packetloss which was solved by reconnecting the pppoe client… all in all very erratic.
to be fair though, the last time I tried that was with 3.30 - i didn’t bother testing with any of the newer versions because i didn’t see the need for more than 4 lines anyways ![]()
maybe next time I get my fingers on a rb493 i will try it again ![]()
on server hardware - a cisco 26xx will definitely not cut it, their cpu’s are just way too weak…
Thanks, which cisco model would you recommend then?
I suppose 2811 or upwards. Cisco recommends a Cisco 2821 for LNS duties up to 40 Mbps.
I am not an expert on cisco hardware capabilities though -
maybe you can get a used cisco 3700 series router for a reasonable price.
What kind of performance you can expect from 3700 series routers, I don’t know ![]()
Maybe ask around in some cisco forums.
