I’ve been looking for a stable router that is able to handle NAT, routing etc. without bottlenecking my 1000/1000 internet connection. Is that currently possible reliably with any of the Mikrotek products without disabling most features?
I looked a bit at the verious RB2011 versions. I don’t really need that many ports though but that’s fine. I would be looking at a MikroTik unit specifically for reliability. After having used a WNDR3700v2 running OpenWrt that I basically never have to reboot, I’m kind of spoiled for stability (at this price point). I would continue using it if not for the lack of Gbit speed throughput performance. I’ll probably continue using it as a Wifi AP plugged into the MikroTik.
(I have some experience with ISP grade Juniper hardware so I’ll hopefully be able to figure out the Mikrotik too.)
Take a look at my CCR1009 topic, it handles this with ease and is their cheapest CCR model. Combine it with a CRS226 if you wish to have lots of ports uplinked through 10Gbit (25$ DAC cable).
If you REALLY want something cheaper. Maybe, just maybe the new and upcomming RB850Gx2 will also do it. But since that model has not yet been released, we don’t really know until someone has tested it!
A RB1100-AHx2 will also do it, including the low memory version. But taking in account that it’s price is in a similar range with the CCR1009 i would recommend the CCR.
I have 920Mbps DL from my provider with 85% processor load on the 1100.
Check the throughput tables on official products webpage . Take the figures as ideal and add some reserve for you. You will realise that 1100ahx2 is not enough to ensure your speed. Go for ccr.
