We are using Intel p4 3.2Ghz to monitor 490 items on dude (all mikrotik devices) only monitoring:
Ping
Volts
Traffic on uplink interfaces
total snmp traffic in: 1.2mb out - 1.2mb
Dude frequently spikes to 100% cpu and stay there for a while, every time we want to add a new device it responds slow and sluggish.
We are upgrading the server room and moving verything to 1 or 2U units.
I want to move dude to a RB1100ahx2 but dont know if it will run smooth.
We tried is on a RB1200 once, but the board could not handle it and ran at 100% CPU constantly.
Does Dude support dual-core CPU ? and will it use it ?
You also need to consider the storage subsystem. The dude of that size will not run well off the flash of the RB. We had dude 3.6 running in ROS 5 on routermaxx 2.93 dual core x86 with dude store on 2.5 inch hard drive and it could not keep up with snmp tags. They would stop working. Moved to win 7 on lesser hardware and dude runs fine.
WHat would you suggest I use ?
Maybe a fast SSD drive, and i5 CPU will do the trick.
I tried RB1100 but CPU goes toe 100% quickly.
I suspect the dude will benefit the most from the fastest single processor speed more then dual/quad cores.
I was commenting that the flash in the 1100 would not be ideal for dude with that many devices. ROS CPU skyrockets with IO to internal flash.
I am monitoring ~220 devices (ping, cpu, voltage, temperature, traffic parameters etc.) with Dude 3.6 running on ROS 5.x for a half year. ROS is installed on an Intel D525 dual core Atom platform with 2 GB of RAM and an 16 GB SSD. There are no moving parts. The CPU load usually is at 5-15%, the disk is at 2%.
