We would really love to be able to deploy a combo lorawan w/ cell box, but there’s just not much that can do both or work with most US network’s bands.
A device with both lora915 and a US focused LTE/5G modem would be really really great. Right now this basically requires 2 devices like 2x wAP, and still the band support for US operators is pretty limited.
It's been a problem for a while. But if you need low-bandwidth (1Mb/s) narrowband, the KNOT works with AT&T (and T-Mobile AFAIK), and an IoT SIM.
But otherwise "newer" 4G/5G modems in routers all don't in United States. The LTE6 can work for AT&T and T-Mobile too, but it is slow by today's standards and does not offer full bands/CA available - so may still not work in some regions.
Anyway, it's quite annoying.
If you want to DIY, they have some RouterBoards with dual miniPCIe (ltAP and RBM33G And they sell the LoRaWAN miniPCIe modules, and then use a third-party modem in other slot (4G more easily, 5G is hard since you need to adapter M.2 to miniPCI). And there companies like RF Elements and others make cases that fit the boards.
Not really interested in a DIY path, I need complete products. The KNOT has a cat-m modem which would be fine for bandwidth but getting IP comms on those case be a bit of a challenge in the US. And, would love to ahve an external radio like the wAP fill this role.
Not wrong. I'm in the same boat, for years. They keep coming out newer products, especially ATL 5G... But been 0 signs of some -US variant of anything.
