I have a rb532 with user manager on it over the last few months it has begun to show signs of not being able to handle the traffic so I am (trying) moving the user manager to a RB600.
When I log into the RB532 and attempt to save the database I get:
Action timed out – try again, if error continues contact mikrotik support and send a supout file (13)
If I login to the ftp I can see and copy the file even though it said it failed (im assuming it is incomplete)
When I login to the new Rb600 and attempt to load the database I get an error stating that I have run out of disk space (confirmed by monitoring while loading).
Do I need to restore the database to a CF card? How is this done? Will I have problems with the CF card failing due to to many rewrites? Will a microdive work better?
I’ve just had a 532 stop responding with zero space left on the HDD. It had been running a hotspot on a public PC in a backpackers for about a month and had accumulated 107,000 entries in its log and over 70,000 session entries in that time - logging had been left as default and I find nothing in any MT manual about clearing them, which has to be done manually anyway!
Taking it out of the network I tried resetting the configuration using the reset button, but that had no effect as apparently the reset button on the 532 doesn’t work. Shorting JP1 didn’t work either. I couldn’t get any response from the serial port either so assumed the board was faulty and returned it to my MT supplier.
He, it seems, was able to restore the board by “using a null modem cable [and] interrupted the boot process with HyperTerminal, and told it to boot from ethernet while Netinstall was running. From there I formatted the hard drive and loaded the latest RouterOS that your license would allow.”
So perhaps you just need to watch the logging. If this is the situation adding a CF drive is merely going to defer the problem occurring.
Been there done all that, thanks for the ideas anyway. i have deleted almost 1,000,000 log entrees manually! im not looking to revive the RB500 in any way im just out of ideas for the limited disk space on the Rb600, seems dumb to have a later model RB with less hd space than the older model, although im sure there is a good reason.
We are working on the option to User-Manager files in CF [additional hard drive]. Support for that feature will be added in the future.
Currently the one way to get User Manager back, delete unneeded logs then try to import database back again. Note that console can display error, that it is timed out but database file will continue to generate.
