moving WAN from ipv4 to ipv6

I will be changing my WAN provider (same ISP), I think the new one will be using ipv6.

What are the general step to move from ipv4 to ipv6? if possible I would like to keep my current configuration for my network. I just want my dhcp client to be working.

I currently don’t have ipv6 package installed, should I install it?

also, is there any drawback of having external ipv6 and internal ipv4? should i take the time to move everything to ipv6? what if for some case I have a device that would not work with ipv6 or would be very difficult to configure? ex; i have a poe switch and i only see ipv4 as my option

You don’t exactly move from IPv4 to IPv6. It’s a replacement in long term (don’t hold your breath), but those protocols are not directly compatible, and majority of internet is still IPv4-only. Most common way is that you get both at the same time. There are also some transition mechanisms (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPv6_transition_mechanism), but before you start worrying about that, it’s probably best to ask ISP what exact configuration they use.
