mPCI cards in Routerboard

Will RT2561ST A/B/G chipset mPCI cards work in a Routerboard 311 ?
Is Mikrotik OS ONLY for Atheros chipset based radios ?

Ooops. I meant RB133

i have never heard about RB311 routerboard. And Yes - MT is only for Atheros chipset based radios.

I did see in tested equipment the Gigabyte mPCI GN-WI01GT board is supported. The GT model and the GS model have different chipsets ?

Here is where I see compatibility with routerboards.
http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Supported_Hardware
But what is mPCI-e slots on a routerboard ? I have 2 RB133 boards. Are they compatible ?

1th. Why u just can’t use edit your post?
2nd. U wanna run RT2561ST A/B/G chipset miniPCI card on RB133? - No i think it woun’t run, couz it’s not Atheros based.
3rd. I can’t understand what u are up to. U wanna use miniPCI-Express card on R133 or x86 based router? If on RB133 - no it’s not possable, cauz it has no miniPCI-Express slot. If u’re up to run it on x86 based system - u should use RB11E adapter (http://wirelessconnect.eu/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=193)

You are right. I should have edited my post.
The link I gave is from Mikrotik’s supported hardware.
I have 2 RB133 boards
I have 6 Gigabyte GN-WI01GS mPCI cards new I want to use in the RB133 boards

I saw in the supported hardware the Gigabyte GN-WI01GT mPCI card is supported on routerboards an x86
The Gigabyte GN-WI01GT mPCI-e is not a mPCI. I do not have that card.
I also saw the reference to mPCI-e. I know now what that is. Nothing I need to use.

Here is what I don’t understand. You say Mikrotek only supports Athros cards and yet the list of supported hardware shows it DOES support the GN-WI01GS which is a RayLink chipset not Athros.
It further states this card (Gigabyte GN-WI01GT mPCI-e) will work in a routerboard that has the -e slot. The Raylink Gigabyte chipset board I have is a standard mPCI slot card.
The point being, supported hardware DOES say it supports the Raylink chipset.

I was hoping someone could tell me of their experience using Gigabyte mPCI cards.
Some say they work, some say Athros only.

MY RB133 the interfaces menu doesn’t show the card being detected at all.

I just wanted some guidence.

GN-WI01GS uses RALINK chipset. It’s not Atheros, so it won’t work.

The brand and model don’t matter, only the chipset. You can google “MODEL_NAME chipset” and find what chipset your cards use.

shows it DOES support the GN-WI01GS which is a RayLink chipset not Athros.

No, the page doesn’t say that. It mentions GN-WI01GT which is a completely different card, with a different chipset and form factor. MiniPCI-e is a smaller card for a different slot, it will not fit into your RB133
