MPLS crashing EdgeRouterX

I have a mixed network of Mikrotik RB5009UPr+S+ and Ubiquiti EdgeRouterX SFPs. If I run MPLS between the Mikrotik devices, or between the EdgeRouter devices all is well. If I try to mix them bad things happen. Specifically, I can connect a Mikrotik device to an EdgeRouter and it works correctly … but the moment I disconnect the Mikrotik from the rest of the network, all the EdgeRouters crash across the entire network.

I suspect it’s a kernel panic as there’s no useful information logged on the EdgeRouters; but I wondered if anyone had any experience of Mikrotik playing poorly with other MPLS devices? And, if so, any experience in what I assume is a mismatched configuration.

Thanks

It’s been a while since I’ve messed with MPLS/VPLS on Ubiquiti but I didn’t think they had done any work on it for a long time.

MikroTik VPLS is pretty stable between vendors so I would hazard a guess the issue is on the ubiquiti side.

What does the config look like?

It would be nioce to show system versions of used devices at least.

Of course - the Mikrotik devices are running 7.20, the Ubiquiti 3.0.0 You can reduce the problem down to just a RB5009UPr+S+ plugged into a EdgeRouterX SFP with one cable. The EdgeRouter still reboots.

Configuration wise it’s all just the defaults on both ends really - nothing more than following the examples online for each device.

Without config examples, log messages and any “show” or “print” commands that show the status of MPLS/VPLS and the IGP for each router, you’re unlikely to get any comments that will help you solve the problem.

It’s a lot like trying to describe a noise to a mechanic and asking them what’s wrong :upside_down_face:

In reality I didn’t expect anyone to debug my specific issue; I was more hoping that someone had encountered this incompatibility in the past; or successfully used these two devices like this - either way, something to give me hope or despair.

I will probably just pull all the EdgeRouters from the network and replace them with Mikrotik equivalents. Long term is probably the best option anyway.
