MPLS/VPLS *over* EoIP - possible?

Hello,

We have an MPLS/VPLS network core with a few remote ‘islands’ on different internet service that connect with EoIP tunnels, sometimes with more routers behind and additional tunnels inside tunnels. I am wondering if it is possible to bring those remote sites into the MPLS/VPLS by tunneling MPLS/MPLS-TE/VPLS across EoIP, since it would standardize the network better. I know you would have to set the EoIP MTU large, at least the size of the MPLS MTU. However I am wondering if there is anybody doing this successfully or if there are issues with this approach.

I’ve done this before. It works quite well.
You might also try to use L2TP…

Yes, it is possible. I would suggest to use this approach to temporary connect islands. Eoip adds a lot of overhead, will require fragmentation and performance will degrade significantly.
