Is there really no chance to install mikrotik and a “normal” linux installation
on the same hd and boot either or the other one?

No, not easily. MikroTik will take over the whole harddisk at installation time. You could probably get something going on a system where you can hide/unhide complete harddrives, but …
Or you could run MikroTik in a virtual machine. VMware does work - read the forums, there are some reports on this topic.

i wonder why would you need that? a router must be online 24/7
More than likely to get some linux application to run in the router that is not currently included…
Still baffles me why anyone would want all these different applications to run on a router, and not the appropriate server -shrugs- Even MT is just getting more and more ‘applications’ rather than just being a Router…
no, he said to boot either one. not both at the same time. so this application would be able to run only when the router is not running.
Maybe he’s low on hardware and wants to test a MT installation / configuration without loosing whatever’s on the machine?
Either way… VmWare’s the way to go! I did an test installation at home with 6 MT (24 hour machines) at home, work real sweet!
