MTU over 1500bytes on ethernet and over 1600bytes on wireles

hello,

would it be possible to allow larger than 1600 bytes frames on wireless? I saw something like 4000 to be maximum for framer-limit with nstreme, would it be possible to extend this even further? Something like jumbo frames on gigabit ethernet… {btw, there is use of mtu even larger than 9000 jumbo…}

Reason? Performance and latency.

thnx, mp3turbo.

Hi there. I second the request for MTU >1500 on Ethernet cards.

Having done a little research, I’ve seen that Intel have released Linux driver support: http://www.intel.com/support/network/adapter/onlineguide/PRO1000/DOCS/LINUX/e1000.htm

I wonder though, does Mikrotik not use loadable modules? Is that perhaps why we do not have this support? (Intel only releases loadable module) I’m very interested in seeing the larger MTU size. Especially given 1600 MTU on Atheros - having larger Ether MTU would allow 1500 payload to client through IPIP and PPTP tunnels, and would be a great support to the complex networks we’ve built with Mikrotik routers.
