Multi Switch Multi VLAN Dante PTP and QoS Settings

Hello everyone,
I am trying to build a larger Dante Setup at my house and I am facing issues with multiple Dante Clock leaders, which is normally due to the PtP Clock not being transmitted ideally. “Taktgeber” means leader in German

I got the following Schematic:
topology-2024-08-06.JPG
Basically a Star topology with the CRS-312 as core switch, having 10G uplinks to CRS-328 and at one point (because I was stupid) having another 10G trunk to a CRS-310.
The 4 leaders are located on the Capsman - Router Switch, the Switch EG, the Switch OG and the Switch Büro. All got 10 GBit links to the Core switch, the Capsman Router.

And I got a basic VLAN Setup with 5 VLANs: 1 for most control things, 10 for Smart Home devices, 20 for guests, 30 for Home Office Stuff, 40 for Dante and 50 for Cameras. As you see, there are also some WiFi APs in the system.

I suspect QoS or PtP being an issue here, because playing with the Multicast Router and learn option on the Interfaces made things go more into the direction I wanted them to go.

I know of the QoS documentation here: https://help.mikrotik.com/docs/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=189497483
but this confuses me a little. On which of the switches would I enable it? on all of them? Or just the core switch (capsman router)? How would I tell it to stay in my Dante VLAN? Would this improve things from a performance point of view? I am a Level 0 noob concerning Firewall configs…

Then, there is PTP: I find those options in Winbox, but I got no idea on how to set them correctly and where I need to set them? Just the port where my prefered Dante clock master would be? Also the trunk ports? All Dante Ports on all switches?

I added the configs of the switches below. Maybe someone has a good idea.
Thanks a lot

Jens

Hello,

CRS328 does not support PTP over 10GB ports. Only on gigabit ports. CRS310 does not support PTP at all … have a look at the bottom of the page for supported devices list:

https://help.mikrotik.com/docs/display/ROS/Precision+Time+Protocol

Best regards,
JF

Okay, so no PTP from the network, but what about QoS - Settings for Dante? What could be done there to get rid of the multiple clock masters?

Hi, first of Dante is running ptp v1 with the mikrotik doesn’t even support, luckely ptp is basically just multicast so it doesn’t really mater that there is no ptp support on those ports:) however back to the issue I think you have a multicast problem in the network that’s why you see multiple masters
