multiple ip per mac adress

hello i have a problem on our network with 1 computer trying to use a lot of Ip’s.

we are running ip hotspot and in the host list i see the same mac address a bunch of times. I have set the hotspot server to only allow 2 Ip’s per mac address and when this cleint connects to the internet it logs her back off and puts in our log that she has been logged off for having too many ip’s per mac address. what can i do to fix this problem? For now i have taked the limit off of the ip’s per mac so she can log on.

i think that it is a problem at her computer but I am not sure.

also one other thing if i look at the host list and the bandwith that is being used by that mac addres over several ips i see that 3 or 4 of them are using bandwith that is not registerd in simple queue.

we have her setup with DHCP so not sure why her Ip keeps changing.

ok i figured one thing out . the mac addres i am seeing is from the wireless acces point that feeds the swich that the pc is connected to.

here is the setup

mikrotik router handing out dhcp and running hotspot.

goes to tower 8186 maxx set as bridge and AP (should be transparant)

the cleint is a 8186 set as bridge and cleint (should be transparant)

from there it goes to a 5 port switch (transparent) where there is 2 pc connected and another cat5 that goes back up to the roof and serves as a local hotspot.

everthing is seeing that feeds thru the appears to have the same MAC addres as the bridge.

anybody ever seen this and how do i fix it?

That is supposed to be how it works a.f.a.i.k. The MAC address that is actually connected to your AP will show up. Not all the others that ‘feed’ of that one. Different layers of networking.

i talked with a friend and he pointed me to the fact that the 8186’s even in bridge mode still transmit there mac adress as part of the packets.

the solution to this was running them in WDS mode and that way what ever is connected to them remotely can be seen not only by IP address but aslo my Mac adress. And that is the way i needed it to work if i have more that one PC in a certain area or using it as a repeater. If there is only one cleint connected to the CPE then there is no issue in seeing the MAC of the CPE and the Clients IP or even set the CPE up as NAT Client.

I was told that mikrotik radios might possible do the bridge mode without sending out there MAC. Does anybody know? TRANSPARENT BRIDGE
