Hi,
Appologies if this has been asked before - I searched for wireless vlan and it returned 765 results… and I wasn’t able to find anything very quickly.
I need some help setting up a scenario at my church. Right now I’m testing on my kitchen table and so far have been unsuccessful… What I would like to happen is this:
-
SSID for public access - possibly use hotspot on mikrotik but dhcp provided by mikrotik router and firewall rules to prevent access into the “private” net
-
SSID for private access - DHCP provided by server on private network (not mikrotik)
-
both of these SSIDs should be served up by all APs in the network (probably around 5 or 6 in total)
For testing I have two 751s and a cisco 2900 XL 24 port switch …
I set up two trunk ports on the cisco and plugged either1 from both routers into those ports.
I set up one vlan on each router for the public wireless.. and put the virtualAP (the one with the public SSID) and the vlan into a bridge
I set up DHCP on one of the routers and assigned it to hand out IPs in that bridge and that appeared to work. I was able to get IPs from the mikrotik.
I set up the main wireless interface into a bridge with ether1 and I was then able to get internal DHCP from my internal network plugged into another port on the switch. I thought “great… it just works” but then I went back and tested the public side again and that part broke.. no more dhcp and even manually setting an IP it wouldn’t get to the internet.
I know I’ve left out some details but it’s been a while since I last tried to set this up.
If anyone could help me set this up as a test that would be awesome. I have the routers and am ready to play with them to get them working.
Thanks.
Rich
