Would be nice if it could send notifications, since after they removed the voltage sensor on the crs326 switches, we don’t get notifications from the original mUps.

i have around 300 x CRS326/CRS226 switches in my network, and while the CRS226 can show voltage input (and therefore can alert me of running on mUPS with a script), the CRS326 can’t, so I have no way of knowing if the device is running on mUPS, so it would be great if the mUPS pro could send out notifications

So this switch uses the biggest chipset from Marvell’s
Prestera DX series, i.e.: 98DX83XX Ethernet Switch Family

What I would like to have from MikroTik is a current switch with more ports: 48x 10GbE, 6x 100GbE, dual Power supplies
Therefore the Maxwell Prestera EX chipset (98EX54xx) could be used.

CRS312-4C+8XG has waht chipset?

Wish there was some announcements about 802.11ax. I guess until ROS v7 is released the kernel is too old to support such drivers anyway.

About “GPEN”: do Mikrotik has plans for OAM like 802.1ag or ITU-T Y.1731?

OAM would also be useful if you once build a PWR-Line with Ethernet (instead of USB) connectivity to manage powerline modem.
OAM-Winbox would also be great :wink:

I wished Mikrotik had jumped the G.hn bandwagon for power-line as well as long-reach ethernet. So already installed wires (power-grid, POTS, coax, Cat5, fiber) could be (re-)used with the same protocol.

This GPEN thing has been born and dead already, so MT is at least few years late. We’ve been making such stuff out of MT switches since 2010 but now all devices are collected and clients converted to GPON access. It’s way cheaper, more reliable and faster. So you should probably have focused more to GPON solutions: 19” rackmounted 4-16 port OLT, 2-4 port industrial outdoor OLT, various integrated ONT options. I don’t think MT is incapable of making this stuff.

It seems like Mikrotik is expanding into new technologies lately (LTE,Powerline,GPEN,…). Which would be great, but it feels like it’s at the expense of “traditional products” like WISP wireless.
Yes, we got 60GHz stuff that’s really great, but just look at the state of the WIFI on RB4011… or even simple thing like OpenVPN UDP support - the thread about it is 11 years old!
One good thing is that NV2 on ARM seems to be (hopefully) fixed, but how long that took… in many cases new products are sold and can’t even work according to the specification for years until they are fixed.
I really hope they did some study and saw GPEN and Powerline will sell well and there is high demand for these technologies somewhere…

The GPEN injectors seem like it would work well with the reverse PoE switch that was announced. They’re a tidy-looking demarc that hides the power jack and PoE out jack, with a nice flat front that you can brand / label.

There’s a few spots where we have customers in small apartment buildings where the landlord doesn’t want 10 antennas installed for the ten units, but doesn’t have a power source for the building that isn’t tied to a unit. So with these products, we can install a single radio on the roof, install the reverse PoE switch on the wall or in a secure location and then install a GPEN Injector in each apartment to all power the radio. If there’s another building on the property, we can do the same setup, but instead of a radio on the roof, we can run fiber to the first building.

Though while a lot of these products are useful and exciting, I was really hoping to see another flagship router to replace the BGP-challenged CCR1072. At this point I’d take a 1U server with an Intel Xeon with a bunch of SFP+ cards jammed in the front and a Mikrotik logo stuck on.

Impossible with 3.xx Kernel, and missing support for actually Hardware

They’d have to be running something like Proxmox on the hardware with CHR running on top to make it work. That would actually be kind of neat if it’s integrated cleanly, you could have multiple instances of RouterOS on the same hardware with some rudimentary backup / failover. Mikrotik would sell you one box and be able to make more money selling you additional CHR licenses.

1.5km extended ethernet sounds pointless when single-mode SFP’s costs next to nothing today.
