What is the speed of the CPU on the new RB1100? The slides do not say.

from the product catalog:

RB1000 CPU: PPC8547 1333MHz network processor
RB1100 CPU: PowerPC MPC8544 network processor

no frequency =)

But you can figure it out from the data sheets and their product naming.

PowerPC MPC8544/E PowerQUICC III network processor

Available in speeds from 667MHz to 1.067GHz.

I am guessing that they are using the 1.067 GHz version based on the name and since the RB800 uses the 800MHz version of the same processor.

The RB1000 CPU has the same e500 core, same 90nm geometry, same processor family. The RB1000 CPU has a 512K L2 cache where the RB1100 CPU has a 256K L2 cache.

I think we can safely say that this will be a bit slower than the RB1000 but will be cheaper, has no fan to fail, better ventilation, takes a true 1U rack space, and has 13 very useful Gigabit ethernet ports.

While I was hoping for more, I think this will be a solid product. It will make a great wPOP router to replace the RB493AH at that function.

the RB800 and RB1000 have basically the same CPU, the major difference being hardware encryption support. Their speed is similar, RB800 only seems slower because it doesn’t have the same number of ports, so bottleneck is there, not in CPU. It could throughput same speeds but it doesn’t have as many ports to actually show it
