My Mikrotik HAP AX3 does not get IP from my Modem - stuck on searching

Hi all, thanks for the help. Sorry if this sounds silly but I’m quite new with Mikrotik.

For context, I am using Vodafone Germany (in Hessen) as my ISP and they provide internet via DOCSIS 3.1 cable. Until recently, I had a Fritzbox that worked “just fine” but now I am using a Technicolor TC4400 Modem and a Mikrotik HAP AX3 as my router.

According to Vodafone (I’m not a L1 German speaker), the Modem is getting an IP from them - I’m sitting behind CGNAT. I also do not need PPPoE or VLAN tagging for my ISP to provide an IP address.

I can see that, when I connect my laptop directly via ethernet to my modem I get a public IP address, but no Internet connection.

However, the Mikrotik DHCP client never gets the IP address from them. It gets stuck on “searching…”

Here is the configuration. Can someone please help me out? Thanks a lot!!

Only thing I see is that you set a MAC address…where did it come from? Is it necessary? What if you remove it?

When I used to have a docsis modem, it was necessary to turn it off and after a few minutes turn it on again to get an IP address. Did you give that procedure a chance yet?

I tried to remove the MAC Address but it does not do anything. It does just reset the value to the default one. I tried to set the MAC as the default one, the one from my modem and the one from my previous router, as well as a randomly generated one, none worked.

I tried to power cycle both modem and routers and I get the same problem.

If I try to plug my laptop directly to the modem with an ethernet cable I see that I get a public IP address, but I still don't have internet.

Edit: I should add as well that I don't see anything relevant in the logs. Hence the lack of them.

Not sure about your ISP, but every time Ive replaced a DOCSIS modem I’ve needed to contact the ISP and notify them. They typically filter by MAC address or something and need to reset the filter to match the modem.

Concur, most likely the internet access is locked to the mac address of the old modem vice the new modem OR locked to the old mac address of the fritz box…
Cable is usually straightforward, and normally from my experience provides a public IP to the router not private, but probably regionally specific.
