(This forum needs a Offtopic or so, for stuff like this!)
Well i made this ourdoor accesspoint solution with a RB333 + 2x RB52 + 1x RB52H
But i’m lazy, and what if it looses the RouterOS/NAND fails or another problems that needs serial attention?
I found a USB over CAT5-6, in this case called “USB Extender” i have then plug’d a USB->Serial cable in and made a null model cable to the routerboard.
The USB Extender let’s made run a cable for up to 60meters to the buttom where i have the RJ45->USB converter.
Now i have a serial connection to my routerboard in my tower installation (about 50meters up)…
This solution cost’s about 100€ but a crane will cost me about 300€ per hour! and i save time…
This is “Version 1” and more will come in the furture…
Hope other’s can use this solution in their solutions
And please post what you think!
Nice, would you mind posting more information about the serial cable pinouts that you used for the cable that you made? I assume that you made your own just for the lack of space to plug it directly into the routerboard, or did you have to change some pinouts?
Are all pins used or just certain ones? Also, where did you get the cat5 bulkhead connectors?
Just a normal IP67 ABS/PC case…
Made some holes and done…
We hope in time, that we can get the tools to make holes the fit the n-connector, so it doesn’t turn around in the hole when you connect an antenna…
(and maybe sell case’s with custom made holes and with the connectors).
be interested how that works RF wise with the triple shot and standard pigtails so close to each other etc..
can you put 50 ohm loads on the sockets and say run them all as AP’s and do a scan from each to see the levels of leakage from its neighbours. maybe less of a problem at 2.4ghz but i know that at 5.xghz that config does not work without properly without solid screen coax and very careful layout. (not possible with u.fl leads > > )
receiving -15 > -20dBm into your receiver from a next door cards transmitter doesn’t make for a good performance.
i run serval boards 333 and 433 with 2 cards in 5ghz ..i’f never had any problems with that .
Beside that you will always have more problems with 2,4 ghz than with 5ghz when speaking about 1 card blow s in the others
reciver simply because you only have 3 non overlamping channels in 2,4ghz.
