recently i have got a SMSF drop from my isp. isp end have a sfp media converter and they give me the other sfp of that pair with a media converter. after successful link i decided to bypass the media converter and put the sfp directly in my 2011uias. after petting the sfp link established and all was okay but suddenly after 2 days i realized that my internet was gone. i saw that fiber link is okay i can see tx and rx light level but there is no ip connectivity. then i deside to return to the media converter setup. after connecting with media converter all was okay. is anybody faced this kind of problem?
Maybe the ISP is expecting the MAC address of the media converter?
no media converter is a dumb device. I further experimented on the issue. the media converter have a ability to ditect far end ethernet link condition, that mean if I disconnect the rj45 plug from one media converter other media converter automatically shut down its ethernet port but not the fiber port. now what I saw in my test that when I plug the sfp in my 2011 then the opposite media converter’s ethernet port remain down but if I plug the sfp to media converter and take a patch cord and connect that media converter to mikrotik then instantly link established and data transffer also.
I am thinking about the sfp, may be it is not properly supported by mikrotik.
I will try to attach the datasheet of that sfp.

The most simple advice: Keep the media converter in place. I know, we would like to eliminate any active devices as much as possible, but still.
finally i do some experiment and found that my Chinese brand sfp is not fully supported by mikrotik but they are supported by my cisco small business switch SG300-28. i have some jdsu, finisher sfp which are perfectly supported in mikrotik.
but in the other hand i have some copper sfp like avago and nokia branded which are also not supported. all not supported sfp’s are detected and show me the ddm data and link okay but data transfer not happening.
normis, can you add support for my Syrotech brand sfp?? because they are cheap only 30 usd per pair in my country (India). here is the website http://syrotech.com/
if you needed i can provide datasheet.
p.s. all sfp’s are gig sfp not 100 mbps.
Use Maxxwave or MikroTik for best compatibility
please post a photo of your sfp
