I’m running a Mikrotik 2.7.7 router that’s a NAT router for a couple of private wireless networks (these are proprietary). I’m trying to track down some latency issues, and am wondering what sort of latency I can expect out of NAT routing. The machine is a 535mhz machine, which I would expect shouldn’t be an issue, but I thought I should see if it’s possible that NAT might be the problem.
I too might be seeing a similar problem with NAT. I have a mikrotik 2.8.16 running basic NAT in my office - this is connected to another linux router that is my gateway onto the internet(Bonded DSL).
When I NAT from a client PC through the MikroTik I can only use about 2.5Mb of the available bandwidth
When I give myself a public IP address from my Gateway Router and bypass the MikroTik I can get the full 4Mb that is available at my Gateway
It appears that NAT is putting some kind of overhead on my connection.
I am using a PII 400 with 64Mb -
