i m all set to put a mikrotik to my omni antenna..for my wireless clinets
Dear friend,
MT-OS and RB with Mikrotik wireless cards is very good for wireless network in a cheap rate. But you have to remember also that with omni you can’t have it’s best result, cause omni makes more noise then point to point grid or sectoral antennas. It should be best if you can use 4 sectoral antenna for your wireless clients around your area and you can also put different channels for the sectorals. But with omni you have to stick with 1 channel only. By the way what freq you are using for your clients? is that 2.4 or 5.8? 5.8 will be better cause it has many channels then 2.4 and you can avoid channel collision with other wireless providers.
I don’t know if I helped you with those informations or not. But hope so.
Take care
For more than 30 clients on one site, you should have at least 2 sectors.
I found it the hard way that an omni on more than around 30 makes some of the clients have big latency - high ping times. That was a long time ago.
Get a sectorized antenna, or more and put at least 2 wireless cards in a rb5xx or rb333. Don’t think about rb1xx, cause for me was better to use a much powerful card or x86 hardware.
They are working well for ptp, and ptmp, but with few clients or low transfer rates.
And study well your competition before deploying.
This will save your time and money.
Thx.jorj..for ur kind help…
one thing i like to tell u…that i m the evry fisrt one to use wireless setup in my location…as time gone by 2-3 competitor are generated and they copied my setup nad use the same radio and same omni which i m using ..actaully they copy me but still they are low troubles… now i want to outplay them..plz help me i cant use any other frequency..except 2.4 ghz..i love mikrotik like any think..i wanna win the battle with the hlp of u people and mikrotik…i hav done some searching and i hav read about Ubiquiti XR2(600 mw and it also have 2.4 ghz band)…i was jst looking to use XR2 with RB 333..wht do u think..will this combination is a good choice..or shd i use Ubiquiti SR2..? i hav read miktoik forums where soem guys hav stated Ubiquiti cards are not good performers..plz help me gentleman…
Rb333 is a good choice. Still, it is new hardware and for the moment works only with ROS 3.0. Wich is still in beta.
You might be better using a rb532 with your setup.
Don’t know about your location, but if you can only use 2.4, as you say, it is a good chance that you only are allowed to emit to 100 mw in 2.4, or 200, or something. Wich is well BELOW the xr2 power, without antenna.
Study well your local laws, before putting your money on something expensive you’ll never use.
I myself use r52, r52h, alfa and tp-link ( last one for x86 only) . They are all good. Very good in fact, and since they are rock solid, i won’t change them for little more, wich i won’t use. Played with senao and i admit only one sr2, but till now, i stay with what i said. In the times i was using only 11b, i was using 2511 from senao, wich was awsome. But traffic needs increased… ![]()
There also are two models from tonze, wich perform very very well. 686x and another one, with high power. They are vere similar to r52 in design and performance.
As for cm9 and another wistron, high powered and newer, i only seen them working on somebody else, never played with them for more than an hour.
So, an expensive card with a high power may not be used entirely by you. Calculate your space loss and your budget, and choose whatever swits you.
And stay within legal limits. IAs much as possible.
This is a major concern here.
Also if you buy cheap equipment for clients, you actually loose more money. You get what you pay for.
You’ll allways perform better if you offer something more than the others. Something could be vpn, encripted connections, higher “local” speeds, always higher availability, you choose. It’s your clients. Or theirs, for the moment. ![]()
Dear Wireless12,
you are thinking abt your wireless card but this not your solution , if you want to win the battle in the wireless zone just use 3 sectoral antenna with 3 wireless cards in 3 diffrent channels and a x86 system with ROUTER OS. 2.4 freq is enough for it.
That’s it. you can cover almost 4 KM on point to multipoint with min 100 users.
Take care n hope you will win the battle.
thx once again…u are really look like a man of great wifi skills..well 400 mw and 600 mw is not a issue for me.i can use it…i live in a poor country…where clients are not ready to pay for a good hardware..i frankly tell u tht i m still a new in mikrotik…though i bought a pair of 133c RB with R52 for a point to point link and its working like a miracle…after seeing its results i m eager to use it for point to mulitipoint…i hav heard abt RB 333…and i immediatley make up my mind to put a mikrotik with XR2 or SR2… i remeber i hav seen one ISP which was using SR2 with 533…and the results was outstanding..he told me its all abt confuguring ur access point..he told me if someone correctly configure with correct settings he can do wonders..and yes he was haing 64 clinets…he took me to almost 17 clients…which were at 2km away frm the tower..and i was shokced to show the letancy it was 2ms…i need to hav same setup…he is not ready to help me…but i m very hopeful of mikrotik forum…mind u i m using very low cost AP at coustomer mode which suports only 2.4 GHZ..(TP- LINK, mikronet 912Gk,etc) cost near about 40 $ ,if u hav any suggetion for some brand which i can use at clinet end..plz do tell..i would be very greatfull if i win it with all ur support.thxxx
Dear wireless12,
I have my own wireless network and clients also, and I can say I’m using the cheapest solution for my client end (70$ for one PC and 100$ for more than one PC)with stable wireless link. But I don’t think you count on my words. By the way which country are you from? I’m from a very poor country too.
Thanks
i m frm india Mr hulk..but may be u dont hav interference issue..in ur location..in my physical location i got very very high interference..
Dear wireless 12,
Man you are my neighbor, you are saying that your country is a poor country! you have everything the world has and also the cheap technology. I have brought wireless antennas from your country do u know that. I’m from Bangladesh may be u heard the name. By the way from which state are you from? I have been in India 3 times but it was for traveling, you have a beautiful country. I live near our main Airport and I have the highest interference in our country.
Take care
well salamaycum…i m living in AGRA…i know dear india is not poor but the mentility of clinets are very very poor..
