Need help to setup this network - Repeater / WDS Slave ?

Hi, I am new to this powerful RB751G AP. I must say it is a steep learning curve for coming from commercial end user routers.

Here is what I want to do and hope some gurus can point me in the right direction.

I would like to have my RB751G serve as a AP while connecting to the Remote AP which is the internet gateway. I can get the RB751G working as AP (out of the box) but not sure how to get it to connect to the Remote AP.

Client PC <> RB751G AP (Wireless) <----------> Remote AP <> Internet

I have read somewhere that what I want to do is make RB751G a repeater. Some where else says WDS Slave. Essentially need to get the client PC on the internet.

Appreciate any guidance that gurus out there can offer. Thank you.

Does the PC connect wirelessly to the RB? If so, then you want wds-slave. WDS-SLAVE = REPEATER (station+AP-Bridge).

If the PC connects to the RB with a cat5, then you want station only.

Yes PC connects wirelessly to rb.
Currently my rb is configured as an ap with dhcp/Nat etc etc. Do I need to wipe those settings and just configure the wireless as station-ap-bridge/ssid same as remote ap/ security profile as I would expect that the ap connected to the internet to provide dhcp services.

Anything else I need to take note?

Btw the remote ap connecting to the internet do not support wds

Thanks in advance!

I don’t think the other router needs to support wds. Just change the mode to wds-slave on the mikrotik, make sure the ssid/security/signal speed etc is the same on both routers and see if they connect together.

You need to use WDS to be a repeater.

If the remote AP can’t do WDS then it won’t work !
