I’m having problems with Netinstall on a Windows 7 Ultimate Virtual machine. I’m running it in Virtualbox on OS X.
It goes through all the motions, i.e. the router is visible in Netinstall. I flash the router, and it all appears to upload ok, and then says ‘waiting for reboot’ as normal. It reboots, but the code doesn’t run - it just goes back to boot and appears again in Netinstall instead of working.
Doing the same on a Win7 laptop and it all works fine. Any hints/suggestions please?
So, did you get it to work? I am a Mac user and am in a situation where I’ll need to do a clean install of RouterOS…I didn’t plan on using Windows 7 on my Mac via Parallels because of the virtual environment is unreliable.
I had that same issue - I was able to trace it back to unreliable unzip methods and drag and drop functionality.
Download the file ( router OS package or the all packages ZIP file) on the Windows VM and then extract using windows explorer. Use these freshly extracted files with Net Install on the VM, it worked for me.
I have found that it’s best to keep a very slimmed down Windows XP virtual machine on hand to deal with this type of stuff. Windows 7 was never able to get a good clean NetInstall while running in VMWare Fusion. Windows XP did just fine.
