Netbios device name vlan - lan SOLVED!

Need help  again
rb2011
Vlan1 is wifi network 192.168.10.0/24
vLan 2 is guest 192.168.20.0/24
default LAn is cable attached devices 192.168.88.0/24

I need to have the wifi devices see the Synology on the defaultlan on its device name. nbt netbios wins
i can connect to the synology with ipadres.
Please advise.

cannot iTunes server and media server

Netbios won’t work across routed networks. You need to use either DNS or WINS or something that will work across routing. Netbios needs the computers to be in the same broadcast domain, which is the exact opposite thing the vlans do…

Also as I have noted in the other 3 threads you have running. It is much hard for me/others to keep track of your issues/config if you start multiple threads for the same issues.

Sorry i will try to keep it central

I would like to be able to connect to the synology.
Media server, iTunes server, file server

I don not know if i need NETBIOS.
I don’t have to see other PC’s
Just want Vlan1 and default lan to see the synology.

Most discovery protocols won’t cross routers. You need to use dns, wins, or something like that. Not sure how to make iTunes work across vlans. I’d have to look of us possible

Hello mvdijck,

the vlan1 is even the default vlan and should be used only as a
management vlan for the administrator, likes you in this case! (it is not a must be but more can be thing)

Normally you put devices in different vlans that they are separated each from another, but if you make
the NAS becoming also a member from the WIFI VLAN then the wifi devices can also see the NAS.

When i make the NAS member of the VLAN the devices on the LAN cannot connect

Maby i’m missing a point.
I need to look at the setup and what i really want and need!

Subnet - Privat Wifi and kabel attached devices NAS, PC, Laptop ipad smartphones
Subnet - Guest - only internet.

No I have the:
Default-Subnet - LAN
VLAN1 Subnet - privat - Wifi only
VALN 2 Subnet - guest - Wifi only

If i kan make the Default Subnet and VLAN2 connectable on the WIFIAP it should solve the problem.

Maby someone has a bether solution how to setup the network?

That was my point before. Basically you are trying to use protocols that only work within a broadcast domain, but you are using a vlan which has the purpose of separating broadcast domains. There are some proxies to for bonjour etc that allow it to work across broadcast domains, but I have no knowledge of them, thus can’t help you with them.

@mvdijck

When i make the NAS member of the VLAN the devices on the LAN cannot connect

As I am right informed can a device such a NAS be a member of more then one VLAN, so it can be reached
from other VLAN members also, ok perhaps MikroTik RouterOS is not dealing with this, then I am sorry!!

It is theoretically possible… but would be a pain.

I Solved it.

Real simpel

Started over again.
Made in the Wifi AP 2 SSID’s Private and Guest
Turned on VLAN - untagged

SSID 1 VLAN ID 1 private
SSID 2 VLAN ID 2 guest

Router default config
created VLAN 2 with ID 2
Created Network for this VALN 2

I did not create an VLAN1.

Now the Private Wifi connected host are on the same LAN as the cable connected hosts.
Problem solved
