Sorry for the newbie question (new to Mikrotik), but I’m banging my head right now. I have a new NetBox 5 that I’m trying to setup. I’ve powered it on and connected to the ethernet port. It’s not giving out a DHCP address and the quick start guide says to connect to 0.0.0.0. Is this normal? Should it give out ip addresses to a computer connected to the ethernet port?
Is it new, or does there maybe be any old setting in the device ?
First step you should try to download winbox from this site, if you have Windows and run it, to see if you can connect to the device.
By default, factory configuration of Mikrotiks do not provide DHCP, you have to configure by yourself.
But, that’s not a problem since you can connect to Mikrotik using MAC in the place of IP by using Winbox, just like the guy above say.
Download Winbox → Open up → Neighbors tab
You should see your Mikrotik if you’re on the same network, click on MAC address and connect to it.
