Netinstall - bad network connection

I’m experiencing an interesting problem. I’m using the Mikrotik router installer v2.3.39 for PCs with the 2.9.39 packages. I made a floppy (actually a usb flash drive), booted it up on the target machine and started the install.

After it finishes formatting the drive, it pauses for about a minute and shows FATAL ERROR: bad network connection on the target machine.

I’m not having network problems on other machines and this one installed CentOS 4.3 remotely previously. The target disk is a 5GB CF microdrive.

Has anyone run into this before?

This is going to sound strange… but..
The issue is probably with the “source machine”
Try a “Dumb Stupid slow box of rox NIC in the source machine” this usualy will take care of the issue.
Some nics react too quickly to a split second connection drop and the istall fails. Also a switch in the mix will usualy help.

I keep a couple of CE3s arround fot just this reason.
