I’m trying to use Netinstall to load RouterOS x86 onto a USB drive. I can see the USB drive just fine, but when I click Install I immediately get the error “Cannot MBR on device”. I’ve tried rebooting, formatting the USB drive multiple times, disabling firewalls and anti-virus, turning off network interfaces, running in Windows 7 mode, and running as administrator. Nothing works on two different Windows 10 computers.
Note that I am able to use Netinstall just fine on my Windows 7 laptop. Does anyone have any guesses as to why Windows 10 is not letting me use Netinstall?
I’ve had the same issue. I guess it’s caused by your network card (some incompatibility). I tried on a couple of different desktops … the issue appeared only on my old laptop (Dell Lat 7440), quite frustrating. I never managed to netinstall any mikrotik so far on that laptop. I have at least one PC standing by, from where i do all the netinstalls. I would recommend you to use a cheap usb-ethernet adapter. Of course, disable all firewalls and AV apps and follow the recommended steps in the wiki.
That was the only possibility for me to netinstall from my old laptop. I still have to try 2-3 times until the device is visible in the menu, depending on the device. You only have to be careful to set the ip on the correct interface (network adapter). After all, if you have a usb-eth adapter laying around in a drawer or you can borrow one or even buy one (8-10 EUR) it’s worth giving a shot. That’s my opinion.
