NetInstall Upgrade on RB230...

Hello,

I have a RB230 with a v2.9.7 Level 3 license that expired 3-1-06. I tried the NetInstall utility to bring it up to current v2.9.42, but the utility would only say "Installing" then time out back to "Ready" status.

I then tried NetInstall using v2.9.30 packages with the same results.

I then tried NetInstall with v2.9.21 packages and was successful bringing the RB230 from v2.9.7 to v2.9.21.

Logging into the router now shows v2.9.21, but also shows the license will expire in a little less than 3 days. Logging into the router via console or Telnet shows this:

MikroTik RouterOS 2.9.21 (c) 1999-2006 http://www.mikrotik.com/

ROUTER HAS NEW SOFTWARE KEY

Your router has a valid key, but it will become active
only after reboot. Router will automatically reboot in a day.

I've tried rebooting the router as the message says to do with no effect.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Thanks,

Brad

The license expired long ago. Netinstall will not give you any free licensing. You need to simply purchase a new license for the board.

I think the key is here" ROUTER HAS NEW SOFTWARE KEY "
As in the screen dump..

Did you purchace a new LIC key?

Also there were some licensing model changes done durring this time frame..

I seem to remember an issue relating to this posted in the past.

You should drop support a note with the LIC ID number so they can look up the current LIC key and advise you on the upgrade path and method.

I can’t remember where I saw the advisory…

Hello,

I’ve upgraded several RouterBoards with expired licenses using the NetInstall method.

I was told MikroTik allowed this for all v2.9.x licenses that were v2.9.x, but older than v2.9.28. (I think v2.9.28 or there about) MikroTik referred to these as “stranded” units that could only be brought up to date via NetInstall.

Am I the only one that remembers this?

Thanks,

Brad

I am having the same issue with several boards, and I’m not amused. If a board was valid for install of 2.9.4 then under the new licensing scheme I should be able to install the latest 2.9 without buying another license.

MT, WTF?
