Hi all, Im trying to install RouterOS on the netPower Lite 8 instead of the default SwitchOS. The unit doesnt seem to boot into NetInstall mode? I have pressed and hold the reset button for 20 seconds before applying power to the unit. The netPower Lite 8 never connects to the NetInstall app (Net booting / Boot Server Enabled etc). I have followed all available guides. From what I have read the netPower reset lamp is not behaving as it should when entering NetInstall state. Is this not possible on this model?
Thanks // J
Well, it comes NOT with ROS, not even with SWOS, it comes with SWOS lite.
No way you can install ROS on it as the product code hints:
CSS610-8P-2S+OUT
it is a CSS device, so a "pure" switch, not a switch/router like CRS devices.
Netinstall is defined as:
Netinstall is a tool for installing and reinstalling MikroTik devices running RouterOS.
Ok, thank you for the info, I thought there was only a SWOS version and not SWOS and SWOS Lite. That explains it. Thanks // J
Yep, but it doesn't make a difference, there are mainly three kinds of devices:
- pure switches that can run only SwOS or SwOS lite (typically CSS) whether they run SwOS or SwOs lite depends on the model and CANNOT be changed
- pure routers (and access points, etc.) that can run only RouterOS
- switches with router functions that can dual boot and run both SwOS or RouterOS (typically CRS)
