Network "topology" suggestions?

I am a new owner (ok, the company will use it as soon as I configure it…), of RB2011UiAS-RM, and the network consists of 1 server, 2 wireless AP, 2 network printers, 2 unmanaged 24port switches, 30+ computers, only the server has gigabit, all the other 100Mbit. Server has no outside traffic.

What “topology” you would suggest?
I think plug switches, server, AP’s to eth2-5, printers to 6-10, or should I plug printers to the switches? AP’s to switches?

Put everything to switches.

what is the reason? some rb2011 ports cannot work in switch mode?

Sure they can. But why you would add other active device if you already have switches there? Let the router to route and keep the networks easy, simple and clean

hmm, I thought putting server to gigabit port of the router so both the switches (and 2 more APs) can gain speed accessing server files

Everything will work. Switching in switches is much faster than bridging between two switch chips in the 2011. Depends what switches you already have.

ethernet ports 1-5 are on 2 different switch chips? 1 cisco , 1 hp, both very basic switches

No. 1-5 are on the same switch. You can use it for sure. But if your switches are fine and you will be keeping them anyway, you don’t need to think about other roles for the router. If you can entirely replace one of the switches by the 2011, it is better to reduce the number of devices.

No, I cannot replace switches, they are physically in different locations, my flexibility is limited.

The main question now is: Will 2-5 ports of 2011 in the switch mode be the same speed or slower?

In switch mode it will make full speed both ways.
