We just set up our first PTP 5ghz link. We are using RB800’s on both ends with R52Hn cards. Link distance is 9.3km. We are using 29db dual pole radomes. I have set the cards to use NV2-N only. Signal strength is -66/64. We are seeing around 25mb one way on bandwidth tests and on speedtests going out. I was thinking this was a little low considering I see the same types of speed using single pole. Is this fairly accurate and to be expected? Is there some optimizing we can do in order to see the speed increase?
At 9.3Kms using 29db antenna’s, I would expect to see mid to low -50’s and not -66/64, what is the CCQ and are you using LMR cable to connect from radio card to antenna.
Houston we have a problem. Chain 0 is showing signal of -80 Chain 1 is showing signal of -68. CCQ is running around 45%. We are using 4’ LMR’s to connect to the cards.
Signal strength should be enough for >25mb anyway. Try to change channel, switch nv2 to nstreme. Under load ccq should be 90-100% bothways.
40mhz 11n with nstreme/nv2 on such hardware would do 150mbps tcp no problem. Udp should show around 220. I assume you have good LoS with clear fresnel zone?
i get -67/68 for a 30 km link with grooves and 23 dbi grids and bandwidth test shows 15mbps+. Considering the interference on my tower n nearby i should still expect 50mbps+ for the kind of hardware u r using. Have u set channel width to 20/40 Mhz or using just 20Mhz?
Have u enabled both chains on the r52hn. Try it. The bandwidth will shoot up.
I think my replies are being approved first and thus are not coming through but I will try again
We are using LMR’s. I noticed for the first time tonight one of the chains shows a signal of -80. CCQ is sitting around 45%!!! Looks like we may have a bad LMR on one of the antennas. Both chains are active and we are using 20mhz. Thanks for the imput and I will post a reply once we get the signal fixed on the one polarity
4 LMR what length, also are you using 2 radio cards in the RB800, if yes having more than one card onto a routerboard could cause interference. do you have freznel zone issue, is alignment good on both sides of link,
We changed Freq’s to 5765. Little higher signal there but both chains are showing the same signal level, -69. Throughput is also way better at around 60mbps on tcp tests. Link still running at only 64% on the CCQ. Any other adjustments to make the CCQ better?
(2) 4 foot LMR’s. Only one radio in the RB800’s. We have climbed both side and alignment is good with clear LOS.
As a test bypass the LMR cable and connect from radio card pigtail direct to annenna & check.
