New 750G Beginner question

Hello,

I purchased the 750G and need to set up ip address as 192.168.1.2 I continue to lock unit up, after changing addresses. Resetting unit returns to original. I’m using winbox, but I am just learning about the code and needed to replace my existing router, that wasn’t Gig.

thanks for your help,

Please explain in Winbox steps. Thanks again.

Not winbox, but http://blog.butchevans.com/2008/06/how-to-configure-a-mikrotik-router-to-replace-cpe-router/

192.168.1.2 is not really correct. You need 192.168.88.2 on your PC, because the router is preconfigured as 192.168.88.1.

if you do that, it will work right away. no other config is needed. the cardboard box has really simple instructions on it’s bottom.

Sorry for the late reply. I am replacing a router that didn’t have gig ability. I have some static addresses and have the linksys wireless set up on the 192.168.1.x network. I can either re-setup the linksys, (but can’t reach it because I’m currently on the 192.168.88.x network), or setup the Mik 750G to 192.168.1.x and every device will work as before. This is my delima.

Currently working through butch’s, but I’m finding out I’m more of a novice than I thought. Especially with two kids and a wife that thinks anything is more important than that Internet stuff, until it doesn’t work ofcourse!

Thanks again fir the help.

If you specifically need 192.168.1.x instead of 192.168.88.x, then all that needs to be done is to change the predefined IP ranges in the router. You should connect with Winbox and examine the configuration.

There should be DHCP-server configured, with a Pool of IPs to give out. Those need to be modified.
