hi
i am planning to build a wireless network to my home because i don’t have dsl and no 3g or LTE tower in my small village
distance about 20 km between my home and the DSL in near city
i am planning to buy the (Metal 5SHPn ) and ( TP-LINK TL-ANT5830B 5GHz 30dBi Outdoor Directional Grid Parabolic Antenna, N Type Female connector ) to do this work
what you recommend for me ? is my choice good or bad ?
what else should i buy ? accesspoint , routers , cables ?
thanks
mmm buy Metal 5.8 with Dish 32db it ok for distant 20K
and any router in ur home not porblem
First have you line of sight between your home and station that you will connect?
For a point to point connection you have minimum a height of 16 meter minimum.
thanx for replay
i do line of sight between my home and station by google earth and it is about 12 km
is this all i need nothing else ? no accesspoint ? is the metal 5 has accesspoint ?
You can the groove use as accesspoint and as client.
A good advice for point to point links use the same devices and antennas.
Groove 1 as Accesspoint groove 2 as client
This will result in good performance
See this link for configuration.
In dutch but folow the printscreens a made

I guess you’re asking for what you need in your home, right?
As MrBarkat correctly stated, any router on your end will do. Just connect its WAN interface to your Metal’s Ethernet port.
Of course I’d suggest a MT device as you will be familiar with its configuration after having set up the bridge. The choice of the model strongly depends on your needs.
But for “just” home use I’d suggest either a RB951Ui-2HnD (2.4GHz WLAN, 5 10/100 ports, one with PoE out which could power your Metal client) or a RB951G-2HnD if you need Gigabit ethernet (but this one comes w/o PoE)
The Metal itself actually IS an access point, but on MT devices you cannot have it configured as a client and AP simultaneously.
In contradiction to Step 9 in plisken’s (excellent) guide, I’d advise not to use TKIP but aes ccm only.
Cheers

Chris thanx for replay
actually i have no experience in this and i plan to do wireless bridge from point to point in almost 12-15 km distance
not buying anything yet .. i am asking before starting do anything
i want to do best work ..
what you recommend to me to buy for this wireless bridge .. with every simple thing must buy.
thanx
I’d say you’ll be absolutely fine with the Metal 5SHPn and the bementioned antennas.
All you will additionally need are network cables for both ends.
And I strongly suggest to add lightning protection on both ends as your gear will be mounted outdoors in reasonable height.
There are lightning protectors in the market as N-type feedthrough, this is what you should be looking for.
They will go straight between the Metal and the antenna. These must be grounded (normally they have a M5 or M6 threaded tapped hole).
For grounding don’t use any cables smaller than 6sqmm which is the absolute minimum for grounding purposes like this. Better go for 16 or even 25sqmm.
I’m not sure if the antenna comprises a N-type pigtail or a directly attached N-female connector - you should check this in advance and probably get a short (2m?) N-type extension cable (M to F).
On another point, please don’t get me wrong:
You say that you have absolutely no experience in doing this - I really appreciate your idea to do it yourself but I strongly suggest you to get some professional assistance.
The possible TX power of this combination can quickly exceed legal limits in your country.
Good luck!
