I recently bought a Mikrotik Hex s, and after a steep learning curve to set it up, i got it done. The performance on my internet has impressively increased since swapping out my ISP issued router for the Hex S.
Yesterday, I decided to buy and add a mikrotik AP (RBcAPGi-5acD2nD cAP-ac). I got it home and started following some instructions on youtube to set up the CAPSMAN and CAP on both devices. At this point both devices were discovered by Winbox. I made a mistake to the youtube clips instructions, so I reset the device using System–> reset with no configuration. I waited for a while and the winbox wasn’t discovering the cAP AC Via mac address nor ip, but it would find the Hex S. I did a lot of searching online how to reset the router manually, tried the 30/30/30 method then just powering the router holding the reset for 15 seconds but winbox wouldn’t discover the new device. Even going to the default ip add wouldn’t give me access.
I noticed that the device was broadcasting a Mikrotik WiFi access point, so I connected to it and bingo I could access the device from the webfig at 192.168.88.1. I set up the router using the webfig quick setting and now I have wireless internet.
My problem is that when I connect to the device through the WiFi both webfig and winbox can only discover the AP and I can’t see the Hex S. If I connect Via Ethernet Webfig and winbox can discover the Hex but not the AP. Thinking it could be my computer. I tried connecting with my phone using the mikrotik app. Again if I conected through the AP wifi, the app will discover the AP but not Hex. If i use the webfig on browser its the same. Hex is unreachable. Also in the app it shows the ip address as having limited connection. when I connect my phone to another Wireless AP (ISP provided) I can access the Hex but not the cAP AC.
It seems that there is a problem with the ethernet connection. Maybe some setting changed when I reset it, but i have no idea what to do to put it right. Does anybody have any ideas what may have gone wrong?
I just powered the cAP AC through eth1 and tried connecting eth2 to the computer and it is now being discovered by winbox is Ethernet.
Once in Winbox I reset without any configuration, and now it’s discoverable on the Eth1 along with the Hex S.
Apologies for wasting anyone’s time who read my long-winded explanation.
