New intel chipset problems with all MT versions

we have found a problem with all intels new network chipsets.
i’m talking about the intel 10/100 82551ER chipset
and also the intel 10/100/1000 82541PI chipset.
both are reconized as a intel 10/100pro and a 10/100/1000pro
and work like a charm if you use normal ethernet connections.

BUT

if you use vlans no go…
tried with v 2.8 and 2.9 put in a good old intel 10/100pro card changed the vlan from interface and bang it works again.

also changed MTU’s to be sure it’s not the more than 1500 issue.
but still no go…

for normal ethernet connections no problem but if you try vlans…
nope

any comment???

ps it’s not a bad card.. it tried with 16 different ones…

under linux they are loaded with the same e100 driver and e1000driver like the rest…
what’s different with your drivers???
how mutch do you guys need to make it supported???
you may send the invoice… :smiley:

What is the Linux kernel version?

You should also send us support-output files from these machines with the description of what you are trying to achieve and what is not working.

centos 3.4 works with vlans
fedore core 3 kernel 2.6.12 works with vlans

haven’t tried any 2.2 kernels

i saw on the intel site that the gigabit chipset is supported with the base intel ee1000 driver

and the 100mit chipsets with the base ee100 driver

both with support for 2.2 2.4 and 2.6 kernels

i also sended as requested my supout.rif to support@mikrotik.com

Supported in v 2.9.

v2.9 is getting really close to full release – we will support on this
version in a production environment now.

do you mean the RC1 or do you mean will be supoorted in the 2.9 Stable???

i think he means that the cards already work in 2.9rc1 and that you can safely upgrade, as he will help you with it if you should have any problem (2.9 is out of beta)

i’m running 2.9RC7 and still no support for the vlans

I picked up 3 of the new Supermicro Xeon boards.
They run RouterOS like a “bat out of He11”..

Only one issue.. The onboard NICs shut down after about 1/2 hr.
No reason no error… If the interface is disabled then enabled,
the interface will again forward packets.

I had to install a Compaq 64bit 10/100 card (Like a rock)..

My guess is a driver update is in order.

Just my two bits..

Anyluck on the the problems with this chip set? As we have several box’s we are try all with this onboard… And need to know how long we have to wait or look for another box..
