Any hints on release dates, anyone has spotted? Also waiting for the newsletter, but checking frequencies, it's not a monthly one, is it?
MT never hints at release dates. Even worse: after new hardware is mentioned in newsletter (which is kinda official announcement that device will indeed be available on market) hard date is still not known (and can take months between newsletter announcement and actual availability).
So file devices we're discussing in this topic into "Xmas wish list for year 202X" where X>=7.
To be fair, there is nothing stopping one from using a Patch cable APC from the providers fibre to UPC for the router. A little odd, since most Routers for public provider networks are indeed APC, but who cares if it works.
Had to do the same, “deutsche Glasfaser” deliveres AON (Business customer, almost all other customers apart from a grocery store and a school on the POP have GPON) with APC, we had normal UPC-infrastructure so APC→UPC OS2 and on the other End UPC from our datacenter infrastructure back to the NT from the Provider.
It doesnt look pretty, but works flawlessly and there are no active components scattered all around the premises…
(Anekdote on this: ”Deutsche Glasfaser” even with SLA Gold is a little hit and miss, customer service swings between “every problem solved in minutes to hours” to “nobody even reads the mails for weeks” in unpredictable ways, perhaps there are actually 2-3 trained people in Customer service and if they are on vacation, sick or pregnant, the whole customer service falls apart… Thankfully, we have 3 Providers in Use, so outage of DG doesn’t affect our company)

Continuing a fairly consistent line of Mikrotik not seeming to understand what ISPs need routers to do, with a very poor choice of interfaces, IMO;
2xQSFP56 (200G)
4xSFP56 (50G)
16x10G COPPER
This should have been 6xQSFP28 and 16xSFP+ and then it would actually have been genuinely useful in the ISP/Telco space, something which could even try and fill the void that will be left when Juniper finally EOLs the MX204. 10G copper, 50G, and 200G is just not a thing we’re interested in. This appears to be targeted at some sort of - I don’t know, top of rack routing(?) niche I cannot really wrap my head around.
I don’t understand how the discussions in the planning interfaces for MT routers goes, but I beg of you MT, please shop around for more opinions before cementing port specs.
(Bear in mind MT also only has one CRS with 200G interfaces on, another enterprise-IT-facing device the CTS812 DDQ, so it’s not even like you could pair this with an MT switch to land more 100G on)

Firstly ditch the copper ports. Change them to be SFP+/SFP28 cages.
Change the 2x200s into 4x100s. Or ensure they offer break out.
50gig interfaces. Well I guess they’ll split into 2x25s, but I’d argue that 40’s are more common and flexible as 25s and 50s seem to largely exist in ‘tik world, plus very few select models of Cisco and Arista (25G) and little else.
I see the 3232 as being some kind of hybrid server/router/switch that, like you said, could be TOR or IT closet, where everybody wants 10G to their desk and 100G+ to the storage network (RDS2216). The rapid development of 7.23’s /app seems to suggest as much.
Their Ampere announcement was also a number of years ago (Nov 2023?), so it’s possible a lot of the hardware decisions were baked in 24-36 months ago.
Product development is hard. We can certainly hope a fiber/SFPx-rich version of one of these is in the works. Otherwise, at times, it seems like, for vendors in this space, there’s a mentality of “Well, we can’t please everyone, so we’ll build something that doesn’t please anyone.”
It is nice to see hAP be Lite device. I was thinking about Be 3 media as it is only device with Wifi 7 and i look for future proof device as replacement for hAP ac2. But BE 3 media has too many features i don’t need because i have standalone NAS with container support and enough storage. So it is good to see that new devices are comming out with Wifi 7. Hope for some “middle” device between BE3 media and BE Lite. But maybe lite is enough too. Waiting for some reviews.
I have to admit that I am having a really hard time understanding the MikroTik lineup, especially from our usage scenarios. 2xQSFP56 (200G), 4xSFP56 (50G), 16x10G COPPER appears to be a really niche combination for a device or is it meant to be used with a bunch of breakout cables? Why not 10GB SFP+ cages if it really has to be 10GB?
It was a bit of a bummer to see that the RB5009UPr+S+IN is a total waste of money compared to the non PoE version! We simply could not get it to work properly with our client device facing Unifi based infrastructure even though both claim being compatible with the respective standards. Reality is very different: Mikrotik devices not being powered at all by Unifi switches, Unifi devices not running stable when they are powered by MikroTik devices. Unifi devices that sometimes are stable but occasionally are not. What a nightmare.
In general, I am having a hard time understanding MikroTiks product lineup. Our switching and wireless workload will stay on Unifi because they offer far better choices when it comes to port type or PoE. I imagined that putting engineering resources on something like properly working MLAG would have higher priority than a ROSE server but apparently it is the other way around. Don't get me wrong: I am not complaining about that. It's just that I don't understand for what kind of clients they are designing their hardware for.
A distributor in Canada, MikroTik Canada, says it’s Marvell-98DX7335, the same chip inside CRS812 and CRS804.
All external ports on CCR3232 add up to 760Gbps, so there’s 840Gbps left for CPU to switch chip connection, which makes sense since this is a CCR.
Worst case, each port 10G port occupies a 50G link. That would leave 200G (4x50G) for the CPU.
Based on spec sheet I'd say that is indeed the case. Unless CCR3232 has another switch chip built-in (e.g. 98DX7324) which splits 4x50Gbps into 16x10Gbps.
OTOH I highly doubt that its ARM processor will be able to handle more than 100Gbps or so of traffic. So CPU doesn't need that kind of interconnect bandwidth towards switch chip. But I doubt that this calculation is even necessary, I'd expect CPU to have some other kind of connection with switch chip (which doesn't count towards the specced port capacity), it is part of the same SoC.
You sure about that? The 98DX7335 only has two ARM cores, and they have nothing to do with Ampere. Mikrotik did not even use them in the CRS812, which is “just” a switch and not even a router, and instead went with a four core Annapurna, which tells me the built-in CPUs on the 98DX7335 are probably pretty pathetic.
The picture from MWC shows four separate heatsinks for four different heat generating components. The one at the bottom left looks identical to the CPU heatsink on the CCR2216 and sits in a similar spot on the board, so that is likely the Ampere CPU. The large one at the top right is probably the switch, it closely resembles what you see on the CCR2216 and other Mikrotik switches for high-end Marvell DX chips. The one at the bottom is most likely for the PHY. The top left one is a bit of a mystery.
The S009UPr+XPr-S+ really looks interesting. It’s the same switch chip as the CRS304
+1 on a second sfp+ port for stacking switches. But this should really come as a third 10G port, as the 10G RJ45 is great for going 5G/10G with copper clients.
This makes me long for two more devices in that form factor:
- A cheaper 1G option (with poe).
- All 10G option. Essentially a different form factor of the CRS304/CRS305. Maybe a 1G-2XG-2S+ or 1G-1XG-3S+

This really does seem like it needs some port-expander(s) to make better use of the total switchchip bandwidth when breaking out to 10G, it seems extremely suboptimal to leave all that capacity on the table on what I am sure is not a cheap switch chip by running a bunch of 50G lanes at 10G
FWIW we have no problem driving multiple Unifi APs - including U6-Enterprise - from a single RB5009UPr+S+IN, so I think you may have some other factor at work if you’re having problems.
We’ve not tried to drive a 5009 using PoE-IN, however - simply not something we have a use-case for
Thank you for sharing that! The Unifi hardware used on that site will get shipped back in the next couple of days so that I can look into that in more detail.
My first thought when I saw those was SlimSAS. But closer inspection reveals they look more like MCIO.
I am seeing a small trend with friends and my SOHO clients - they’re looking more at taking back control of their data and a growing disillusionment in cloud hosting esp. files. With the increase in fibre in the UK, there could be a nice little market in always-on device replacing the router that also offers private cloud storage. Still need to backup to the cloud/off-site as I’ve seen a marked reduction in “my laptops has broken and lost all my files”.
Hi @normis , at the moment do we know roughly when S009 would be available from distributors? Very keen to get hands on one, however unlike CCR3232, it seems haven’t been mentioned / listed by any distributor yet.
