Have a new place I’m setting up with some mikrotik equipment for the first time (hex poe router) after many years with Cisco or ubiquiti equipment.
The docs say to hook into the router first on dhcp at 192.168.88.1. Goes against my intuition to not do static ip— but ok. And- nothing. Neither static or dhcp, can’t even ping the damn thing. DHCP predictably gives an invalid IP.
I’ve tried a factory reset, switched out cables, changed ports. Nothing.
Am I deeply missing something very primitive or is this actually DOA???
If you use Windows, install Winbox (if you haven’t yet) and connect through it by MAC address (find it in neighborhood.
Otherwise, consider resetting to default by using the reset button as explained here: https://help.mikrotik.com/docs/display/ROS/Reset+Button
It seems like your device has an issue, not necessarily DOA, still…
A hex poe will have in default configuration a DHCP server on ports 2-5, and in any case if you setup a static address of (say) 192.168.88.5, the router should be reachable at 192.168.88.1.
There could still be settings on your PC preventing connection (firewall and what not), newish Windows can be problematic at times, which OS is your PC running?
Thanks
Definitely an issue. However once I got winbox running on wine I was able set up an ip to connect to it normally. Definitely not likely the normal way as described above! But I guess works!
