New Network Device

I was wondering if there was a way to automatically discover a new network device within a VLAN or a subnet. For example, on VLAN in the range 192.168.100.x, if a new device connected and was assigned an IP adddress via DHCP, is it possible to configure Dude to pick up that new device and display it? If that is possible, is there a way to setup notification to be sent out whenever a new device is discoverd?

On the map in question click on the settings button on the middle not the top left, click the general tab, put the network range you want discovered, select how often you want it to be discovered… Select 0 for the hops.

One thing worth noting is the services discovered on a device determine how the device type is automatically selected. Tweaking the allowed services on certain devices types can help it automatically detect the type you want it to…

Great! The discovery worked! Does anyone know if there is a way to create a notification when there is a new item discovered?

I found I can’t stand autodiscovery so I have hand coded every bit but I only manage network gear and not desktops or web servers…

As for your question I can’t find a way inside but you should check “the report scan status” Take a look at what is being reported into one of the log files… If it contains any details you might be able to do some logwatch program and email those changes through scripting or batch jobs… I know probably not worth it but even though there is a device count on a network map you can’t install a probe onto a network map to do perodic checking if the value changes.

Here is a crazy way… place all your maps on one dash setup a timed export of a PDF then scrape the PDFs for any changes, ok that wont work at all
