New problem - 900Mhz - Hourly Noise Floor Drop

I have another site that started with a noise floor drop every hour, on the hour. This causes most of my CPE’s to disconnect (SR9)… the outage lasts for about 30 seconds.

I am hoping to get some time to take my spectrum analyzer to the site and see if this happens out of band or inband… but I am looking for possible sources of this type of interference so I can track down the source? Any ideas?

900 is more of a potential wasteland of spectrum compared to even 2.4, because 900 carries and penetrates so well. You’d need a spectrum analyzer and directional antenna to figure it out. It could be a metering system or some other sort of automated network.

Someone mentioned water tower management systems. Any chance of that in your area?

I looked at mine after I read that, looks like they’re using 27MHz or so, big honking yagi.

I would look for water or electric meter reading systems. Some of them use 900 to poll customers a couple of times per day.

Typically frequency hoppers, 1w conducted power output, using the whole 900 band.
