I’m planning to setup a new equipment for my home. My plan is purchase a hAP ac2 and a cAP (there are some areas that could not covered with only 1 router). However it seems the hAP has WiFi issue. Is that any other Miktorik routers that you recommend?
What is your uplink speed? Do you have some NAS or other source of high speed/high volume local traffic?
The thing is that devices like hAP AC lite have only FastEthernet (100 Mbit/s) copper ports, so there is little advantage in having wireless speeds higher than, say, 120 Mbit/s. The hAP ac² and cAP ac have gigabit ports and so the wireless speeds above 150 Mbit/s do matter.
So if your uplink is currently below 100 Mbit/s and you don’t need to watch HD videos stored on the NAS over the air, the hAP ac² and cAP ac may be enough as they work now, with a hope that the issue will be removed by a software update in future. The hAP ac² has a other nice features which make it attractive for particular purposes where wireless speed is not the critical factor.
If you urgently need 600 Mbit/s over the air, you’ll have to choose another brand. So sad things stand right now.
My home broadband was down from 500 to 100Mbps due to expensive new contract terms, there are 1Gbps plan in Hong Kong too, I may change ISP on next contract for a better speed to oversea.
My kids will watch YouTube TV and my wife will watch HD videos from my NAS/internet.
There is a network cable between router and AP.
My original plan is to deploy RB 750gr3 and 2 APs. But it seems the new hAP has a better spec, so that I’m struggling now [emoji38]
The original hAP AC works quite well. Mixed reviews on the the hAP AC 2. Mikrotik WiFi performance is as sindy stated good but not great. Personally I use two UniFI AC access points at home and use a CCR1009 with passive cooling so I don’t hear a fan.
