New to Mk need help anout Roterboard

Hay,
I am new to Mikrotik and i try demo of the software in my pc and its very good and now i want to build new network .
First thing i check Roterboard models and i have many questions need to help me to dedcide which i take :
1-My network connect wired and wirelss users around 250 in same time .
2-All router comes with low memory so how can these help 250 users in same time.
3-Can i attach HardDisk to handle cache files.
4-Can i upgrade my license from level to upper level?
5-Can i add more memory to makeit better?

Thanks for help

The ROS is pretty efficient so you don’t need GB of RAM to handle ‘only’ 250 users. Forget what you’ve learned in using windows PCs.

You can use a RB532 or one of the newer ones that support a CF crad slot of storing cache files. I’ve got a RB532 iwth 16GB CF card installed, sure it will handle a 32GB card no probem. You could also use an old motherboard and (not old)HDD to install the x86 version of ROS, then you just buy a license. That is best if you need top performance, but I prefer the RB hardware. Enough most of the time.

Depending on what amount of traffic etc, that your users use, that will really be the question. The Routerboard series goes from the 100 to thee 1000 series, and most of that can handle quite a bit. 250 users is not that many, but go with a newer 433 or better yet a 433AH board.

Personally, I don’t like to cache on a compact flash card. If you need a super high end unit, rack mountable + have the space for a hard drive, we stock PowerRouters, http://www.mikrotikrouter.com. This are great for high end applications that have that professional feel. Otherwise, the 433AH is where I would go, do your caching though, maybe a 1000..
