New user, new (used) RB532

I bought a used RB532 from someone who didn’t remember passwords, etc so I installed RouterOS 3.30 using NetInstall (unchecked Keep Old Configuration first). It seemed to load ok.

Now, the reported IP address in WinBox is 0.0.0.0 which obviously cannot be connected to. And when I use a terminal program, goes this far and stops

RouterBOOT booter 1.3

RouterBoard 532

CPU frequency: 266 MHz
Memory size: 32 MB

Press any key within 5 seconds to enter setup…
loading kernel from nand… OK
setting up elf image… OK
jumping to kernel code
Starting…
Starting services…

I’ve tried repeated installs and always end up at the same place.

Help?

Mostlikely baud rate is changed to 9600.
Try to change baud rate, or you can use winbox to connect to router’s mac address (instead of IP).

He has the right baud rate as he is watching it try to boot through the serial port.

Have you tried to netinstall back to 2.9.51? I keep all my RB532 boards at that version.

Tom

no. RouterBOARD boot procedure is shown at one baud rate, but RouterOS can be set to another. This is why it shows the boot procedure, but as soon as RouterOS starts, you can’t see it. It’s possible, but I can’t say for sure this is the case
