Hi,
I have been told this is the product for us…
I need a some help in determining what I need
We are a WISP with 1000+ users and I need to install a firewall and something to monitor/ bandwidth control the users using peer to peer etc, also to allow VOIP etc a steady path, we have a Neteq unit that is supposed to manage/restrict the bandwidth but alas this gives only real time information, I hope Mikrotik will be able to manage a lot more!
I had been told that a single port plugged into our switch would suffice,
It was then suggested that I use a Routerboard 1100 unit , would this mean plugging in each Backhaul through the unit and then down to the switch? Could this not be done via a single network port – or is it the processing power of the 1100 that is required. If it is a case of processing power could I not use a VM server and install the software onto that.
I would obviously prefer to use the hardware version but if the unit is not available I will need to go for the software.
The network we have comprises of 1000+ subscribers through 16 backhauls (A + B + C sites) and Access points.
We will initially only be able to connect 5 BH through the switch - 1 main incoming +4 out if we are required to use the hardware.
If I use a VM server I presume if I use this I will need 2 nework ports linked down to an HP procurve switch.
We have a 100meg shared link to the outside world if this helps in determining what we need.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated
Steve
