Who is to decide when a version is really ready for ´general´ use? When can a new ROS be called “stable”?
To me it looks the user community is more the appropriate source then MT themselves…
Why not elect (voluntary base) a selection of experienced forum and MT users to form a sort of ‘test board’ for release candidates that only after voting amongst them will give the advice to MT to call a version “stable”?
I propose such test board members should be elected on basis of:
Points given by other forum users. (Finally Karma becomes valuable!)
Posted at least 250+ posts on this forum.
Have at least 50+ routerboards in production of at least 4 different models.
Been accepted by at least 50% of the other ´test board´ members as being an experienced user.
These ´test members´ should be allowed to have a direct communication with MT development department and post on this forum in a special section if any information of interest to the rest of the community is to be shared.
This board will have an advisory function to MT only but at the same time provide the rest of the users a bit more confident guideline about status of firmwares and probably give MT development a more valuable feed back channel in new developments and user community wishes.
To me it looks this can be a ´win, win´ situation for all of us and MT and will make MT to rank as a top product in its field!
MT will never change its way’s unless its users speak out, Normis has stated that so many people want NV2 in ROS 4 which swayed them into that direction.
MT need to up their game and users putting forth ideas is never a waste of time, You never know which post on here is going to turn on a light blub in some MT staff members head. As long as it’s constructive criticism of course (Which some users dismiss as “crying”)
I agree, I was just calming any expectations that others may have about immediate results (trust me, I’ve been there). There have been (and still are) many very good suggestions have been made on these forums. Mikrotik is long overdue for an overhaul, and may be falling behind in today’s software development environment and user expectations (if that makes sense). I think suggestions are always good, I just wish Mikrotik would at least consider them, and try to work with the community, instead of implementing feature after feature while very crucial infrastructure is lacking. It seems like all we get is a stern shoulder to our ideas; it does get frustrating after a bit, and don’t wish others to experience it.
Anyway, I am still using Mikrotik and posting to these forums, so that says something as well
