Newbie Adding 2nd Router to Home Network

 I have a bit of a newbie problem, and I’ve read through my copy of Networking for Dummies, and also, I have tried to understand the Mikrotik user guide .. but still confused. I would be very grateful if any kind members could point me in the right direction.

ISSUE: ADDING ANOTHER ROUTER TO A PRE-EXISTING HOME NETWORK

My Primary Modem/Router is 192.168.1.1, and it is running DHCP in ranges 192.168.1.30 to 192.168.1.100

When I added a second wireless point, a Netcomm Wireless Router, I just joined it via ethernet, and simply gave it a static IP address of 192.168.1.5, and set it to hand out DHCP addresses from 120 to 130 … that works brilliantly if I connect to that second router’s wireless…

I now want to add a Miktrotik RB951G, so I can setup another separate subnet (wired and wireless) and play with / explore setting up a hotspot facility.

  1. I connected the Router via the ethernet port number 2 to my Windows 7 computer NIC interface.
  2. I turn on the router, it gives me a friendly cheep.
  3. installed Winbox and logged into the interface.
  4. It gives me a default script, I choose ‘Remove Configuration’, so I can start fresh.

Questions:
A) It says CPE on the top bar of Quick Set … I change it to Home AP … I hope that is what I need, considering I want to setup an experimental hotspot.
B) I want to give my RB an Ip address of 192.168.1.8, and allow it to hand out IPs 192.168.1.201 to 192.168.1.240
C) I go to IP / Address List / and I add the following address/network/interface:
i. 192.168.1.1/24 — 192.168.1.0 -------- ether1
ii. 192.168.175.24 ---- 192.168.1.0 ------ ether2

Nothing seems to happen after I save and try to connect … :frowning:

Am I missing a vital step? Thank you guys for any advice as where to look next. I tried to input values into the HomeAP Quickset, but these seem to have no correlation to the IP Addresses I am trying to input …
