We plan to make a link about 10-12 Miles range with 5 Ghz (802.11a) using mikrotik RouterBoard.
However we are still confused about the best Hardware setup for this Link.
Need to have at least 24 Mbps link, 36 or up would be nice. Ping must be stable.
Does RB 112 + CM9 Radio + 26 Dbi (TDJ-5500SPL6 from Kenbotong) will do the work?
Or should we use RB532, SR5 radio or other antenna setup?
I may be wrong but I don’t think you’re going to get even close to that.
We did just setup a Dual Nsreme link that get 45mbps full duplex.
It get 66mbps one way.
The OS is setup on the VIA 533 thinrouter I got from wisp-router. http://www.wisp-router.com/product_info.php?cPath=49&products_id=166
How ever seem it is hard to find the hardware, especially the VIA mobo & mini PCI Wifi card in our country.
Does anyone ever experince using AMD/Intel based CPU + PCI wireless (e.g http://www.dlink.com/products/?sec=0&pid=306) which we think will have a HEAT problem when installed outdoor.
Or maybe it must be installed indoor + a very long Cabling antenna (using a very low loss Cable e.g. Heliax series)
We use a pair of Routerboard 532As with 100mW Atheros radios at 5.2 GHz 802.11a driving a 28dB solid dish and it maintains a solid 48meg link speed at 9.6 miles and we have another with 24meg link rates at 14 miles. Been working great for well past a year now.
yes, we have 17Miles link with {normal PC PIV, compac flash, ROS v2.9.11, CM9 35dBi dish, 1,5m low-loss cables} both sides. bandw. test works fine right along at 40Mbps. the PC is in the big box with our self made ventilation and there is no heat problems at all. i suppose, there is no problem to do that.
