newbie help, 450 setup

Hi, I’m a relative newbie. I have several 750’s, but just got a 450g. I assumed that gaining initial access would be the same, plug into port 2 and winbox to 192.168.88.1.
However, on the 450, when I plug into port 2, I get nothing. Ports 2-5 do not appear to be handing out dhcp. Is this normal?

In winbox next to the “connect to” click on the “…” icon and you should see a mac address then just connect to the mac address.

In RB450 there is no switch. To connect the other interfaces to your lan interface you will need to set up a brigde.

NB! the traffic that will go through the bridge will be handled by the RouterOS. Which again will take CPU capacity from the router and traffic may be slower compared to a switch. The RB 450 is pretty powerfull, so it may not be an issue for your setup.

Thanks, That worked.

Not true; there is a switch. The RB450 uses either the IP175C or the IP175D switch IC depending on the age of the RB450. MT recently moved production to the IP175D.

You can slave ethernet interfaces to a master ethernet interface which uses the switch chip and no CPU overhead.

Thanks roc-noc. My mistake. Are all ports on the RB450G - GB ports?

Yes, all 5 ethernet ports on the RB450G are GB ports. Also the same for the new low cost RB750G.
