Newbie on VPN and wireguard

I am complete rookie regarding the VPN topic. I understand what it means but I would like to have a better understanding of what we can actually do with it.

I followed a couple of tutorials and successfully set up wireguard and was able to connect from my smartphone to the wireguard interface while disabling wifi access on the phone. I am able to ping to the wireguard server from it I mean, and I can see traffic on the wireguard interface.

Following these tutorials I mentioned previously, I set the wireguard IPs on the 192.168.100.0/24 range, while my local network is on the 192.168.30.0/24 network. Router uses the 192.168.30.1 address. Remote access to the router is disabled and according some other topics on this forum, it should stay this way and I should only access it from within a VPN connection.

So, one simple example to get started: under this scenario, would it be possible for me to set up other peers remotely ? What I need is to input the new peer public key into the router´s wireguard peers configuration.

You could use your smartphone to get set information (or better, use the smartphones hotspot to connect the device directly to the router).

It’s useful to get a good start with Mikrotik’s Back To Home automatic Wireguard configuration: https://help.mikrotik.com/docs/display/ROS/Back+To+Home
It also supports adding multiple users.

After you’ve used and studied how it works and seen configuration, then it’s much easier to progress with your own configurations.

What router/OS are you using.
Do you have a public IPV4 WANIP address, or if you have an upstream ISP router, does it get a public IP and can it forward ports to your device?
