newbie problem, cant see mikrotik net

Am new to Mikrotik and have been reading lots.
Have a setup to do for a ptp link to extend our network and have been supplied 2 rb133c running RouterOS 2.9.50 units for the purpose.

I have them on my desk and have simply setup the wireless cards using
/interface wireless set wlan1 ssid=“p2ptest” frequency=2442 band=2.4ghz-b mode=bridge disabled=no
and
/interface wireless set wlan1 ssid=“p2ptest” frequency=2442 band=2.4ghz-b mode=station disabled=no

now on either unit (and a wireless laptop) I can see 2 other nearby networks (using scan), but cannot see the p2ptest network. I have also tried different mixes of modes including ap-bridge and added the MAC addresses to lists etc with no change.

I know I am missing something basic, but therein lies the question.
Any help appreciated.

maybe wireless card is broken?

Thanks for the reading, this is all well and fine, but if I can’t see the network or get a connection for a start it doesn’t help. I doubt there is a physical problem due to the kit being brand new and several units acting the same way.

Not sure if this is embarrassing or relief.. I upgraded them all to v3.10 and had the same results – per accident I found the cause being that when the AP is in scan mode nothing will find it including the laptop etc..
